SHOT BLASTING PERTH
HAWK CFC is the leading shot blasting service in Perth and throughout Western Australia.
Shot blasting concrete is a process where a large machine is used to blast steel shot (small steel balls) over a concrete surface. This is done in a controlled manner, the system pushes the shot through a closed circuit system and recycles the material to be used again. This process is done at high velocity, it removes contamination, coatings and laitance (soft concrete) to reveal a mechanical concrete surface profile for superior bonding for future coatings or overlay systems. At HAWK CFC we control concrete dust by using state of the art, powerful dust collection systems.
CREATING THE CORRECT SURFACE PROFILE
Shot blasting is a method of surface preparation recommended not only by most coating manufacturers but also the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). The concrete surface profile achieved through shot blasting creates a highly textured surface, this keyed surface profile increased the surface area, subsequently increasing the bond of any material applied to it.
BENEFITS OF SHOT-BLASTING
Using shot blasting equipment is considered to be an environmentally friendly option as it eliminates the use of harsh chemicals that can cause damage to the surrounding habitat or people. When these machines are used by trained individuals the rate of preparation production is hard to beat, blast patterns are accurate and consistent, meaning you get consistent adhesion throughout.
WHAT TO CONSIDER
This preparation technique is ideal for self-levelling resins and/or overlay systems, as the depth of the system fills and covers the texture of the surface. When applying a thin roll coat or another types of flooring, such as tiles or timber, where a smooth surface is required, shot blasting would not be recommended. In these cases concrete grinding would be a preferred option. Knowing what preparation techniques to use for your job is important. Having skilled, passionate technicians is vital, at HAWK CFC we have the equipment and trained in house technicians to cater for all your preparation requirements.
